Four days ago, I shared a poem that my brother Micah had written in 2013. He has another one that hangs on the back of his door still, that I would now like to share. This one was written in 2012, and is themed around the choices we make in life. Today is Christmas Eve, and most people will be bustling around, getting everything in order for the big day tomorrow. Some may be sitting quietly without that hustle and bustle. For some, Christmas is exciting and happy, and for some it is quiet and maybe even depressing. To every Christian, Christmas should be a joyous occasion –a day to remember that the greatest gift has already been given: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” -Isaiah 9:6. Let’s not let the busyness or sadness of the season cloud the real reason for it. Let us remember that every day, the choices we make will last for eternity. So, as you give and receive this season, make the choice to consider Christ, the real reason for the season. If you haven’t placed your trust in Him yet, do so today before it’s too late. If you have already trusted Him, continue to! Continue to live your life for Him in light of eternity!
Choices
By Micah Hackett
Let all my choices be for sure,
Glorifying, clean, and pure.
Let all my life be lived for you,
Reflecting all you are and do.
My lips, Lord help with what they say
My mind, until that wondrous day
My eyes, Lord help with what they see
Forever Lord, for eternity.
If one decision, Lord just one
Shall never glorify Your Son,
Change it back to what I need
So now my soul forever lead.
Your mercy, wondrous, ever true
Will help with all the things I do.
I’ll serve you Lord, no not just some
But fully, Lord until You come.
Now at the end of my journey, Lord,
Did all my choices finally please Your word?
“Yes!” said God “my good and faithful son”
“Come with me, now forever we’ll be one.”
